Help!
What are they?
Fire Widgets help you find out more about your location! They use the Fire Eagle service from Yahoo! to work out where you are and then bring you information about that place. As you move around the world these Fire Widgets will respond!
There are three widgets:
- Fire Updater update your location on Fire Eagle.
- Fire Photos photos taken near you, as found on Flickr.
- Fire Weather your local forecast from Yahoo! Weather.
Installing and Removing
To install a Fire Widget, just double click on its icon. You will be asked to confirm you want to install it as a widget.
To remove a widget...well...you should probably just read this.
Authorizing Fire Widgets
Once you have installed a widget you will see a button asking you to 'Authorize' it to access or update your location on Fire Eagle. Click it and you'll be taken to Fire Eagle to confirm that you're okay with the widget accessing or updating your location. If you've never used Fire Eagle before, you'll have to register and login.
Once you've authorized, bring the Dashboard back up and click 'Finish Authorization' on the widget to complete the process.
You will then be prompted to go back to the Finder where your Mac OS Keychain will be asking you for access to Fire Eagle. Click 'Always Allow' to let them work without asking you every time (which can get quite annoying).
You only need to authorize one widget. The other ones will look in your keychain to get the information they need to connect to Fire Eagle.
Why all these steps to authorize?
Fire Eagle needs to authenticate the Widgets to protect your privacy. We also store your credentials in the Mac OS keychain for safe keeping (this keeps other things from seeing your Fire Eagle credentials).
Do i need to uninstall previous versions before updating?
In most cases, no. But if you are using the widgets we released when Fire Eagle was in beta/invite, then yes. There's no harm in having the older duplicated widgets...but really, who would want to keep them? Its best to remove them.
How do I get the updater to set my Adium or iChat status?
Click the "i" on the Updater widget and you can select which chat software you want to update. It's off by default.
Are there any secret fun things you're not telling me?
Not in particular, but you could try clicking on the temperature in the weather widget.
Who made these wonderful widgets?
They were made by the Fire Eagle team and we hope you really like them. Ayman Shamma did most of the work, with design help from the dynamic Samantha Tripodi.
